Mundane to Modern

Dream Kitchen Renovation

Laura and Chris had been living in the same location for over ten years before they started house-hunting. They loved their neighborhood, and they liked certain parts of their home, but they were ready for a change. When they couldn't find a house they liked better than their current one, they realized the best option was to stay put and renovate. Laura told Mint Construction, "That's when we decided we were going to try to make our dreams come true, and the kitchen was a big part of it."

Kate at Mint began with large decisions about where to put cabinets and appliances. A major goal of the renovation was to update the space and have a timeless design that will carry the family into the future. "It's going to be a very modern kitchen." She chose to put the range in a center island so it wouldn't interrupt the clean lines of the cabinets or block natural light from the window.

Opportunities to Innovate

The hanging ventilation hood over the island presented Kate with an opportunity to be innovative. She created a gorgeous glass cage to hide the vent, adding grow lights so the family could place their potted plants there. Laura loves having easy access to the plants while they cook. "We grow herbs in our garden, but now to have them in the kitchen all year. We are so excited."

With only one small window and low ceilings, the kitchen had previously been dark and closed off. Chris wanted to tackle this with the redesign. "One of our goals was to bring more light into the space." Kate used under-cabinet lighting and bright, white materials. She incorporated warmth with touches of wood and open shelving.

Design Continuity Through the House

The family is thrilled with the progress so far. Chris appreciates that Mint Construction offers 3D renderings and tile samples he can review when he's not able to make it to the showroom. Laura likes the continuity of design that carries through into their bathroom. "I love the contrast of the dark floor and the white tile on the walls."
